At the beginning of the week, Audi presented its first fully electronic car, the Audi e-tron quattro! Once again the employees of e.solutions have made decisive contributions to the vehicle. In addition to the software for the virtual cockpit (cluster instrument), we have once again developed the software for the MMI navigation plus (infotainment) and trimmed both to meet the challenges of e-mobility.
Two large-format touch displays now adorn the center console, with the upper screen controlling classic infotainment content such as the navigation and media, and the lower screen being used both for entering text by handwriting and for operating the automatic climate control system. The MMI operation with "MMI touch response" recognizes familiar touch gestures from consumer electronics and adapts them to the special environment of operation in the car.
Our employees have worked hard to develop the software behind the infotainment system and to make driving even more comfortable:
The Audi e-tron quattro is equipped with the new MIB2+ (Modularer Infotainmentbaukasten). This is where onboard and online information merge and the car becomes an even stronger part of the cloud than before. The complete integration of mobile communication plays a major role here - with the contemporary integration of the latest LTE Advanced standard. Audi is the first car manufacturer in the world to support the latest LTE Advanced standard (LTE = Long Term Evolution). The MIB2+ thereby enables transfer rates of up to 300 Mbit/s for download and up to 50 Mbit/s for upload, which means it is about three times faster than the previous MIB2.
We are also entering a new dimension in the field of voice control, known as SDS (Speech Dialogue System): The MIB2+ offers a hybrid solution that integrates both onboard and online responses. As part of online recognition, the driver's voice input is sent as a data package via the mobile phone network to recognition software in the cloud. If both the onboard and online recognition systems provide answers, a so-called dialog manager compares them. When deciding on the more plausible variant, it takes criteria such as the location of the car or previous queries into account.
The new hybrid solution, which accepts a high degree of natural language, considerably expands the spectrum of voice operation. In addition to the special destination search, it also includes functions such as weather, news and online radio. Furthermore, voice assistants will be introduced in Audi vehicles. With such a speech assistant on board, customers will enjoy many functions and services that they can also use at home. For example, they can find out about news, the weather and the latest scores from sporting events. They can also place food orders or add items to their to-do list. The service streams music and audio books, and offers access to a wide range of extensions. With the Smart Home control system doors in the house can be locked, lights controlled and the garage door closed directly from the car - and all this with just a short voice command or a question. We are proud of our employees, who always give everything to bring the technologies of the future onto the road. We would like to take this opportunity to say THANK YOU for their commitment!
